The Family Life
Office oversees the Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting. Committee
activities include the annual religious awards ceremony, religious emblem
training, retreats, and pilgrimages. In addition to the three awards
for youth/young adults, there are two adult awards.
Light of Christ
The Light of Christ emblem (grades 1-2) encourages Tiger Cubs and Wolf
Cub Scouts to develop a personal relationship with Jesus. With the active
participation of the parent(s), we hope that the Scout will come to
see Jesus as a real person and friend.
Ad Altare Dei
Emblem
The Ad Altare Dei emblem (grades 7-8) assists Boy Scouts of the
Latin Rite to develop a fully Christian way of life in their faith communities.
The program is organized in steps based on the seven Sacraments. Adherence
to these Sacraments is a primary means of developing spiritual growth.
The Scout is assisted in the program by an approved religious emblems
counselor.
St. George Emblem
The St. George emblem to recognizes the adult recipient's outstanding
contribution to the spiritual development of Catholic youth in the program
of the Boy Scouts of America.
Bronze Pelican
Emblem
Bronze Pelican Emblem is granted to those adults who have achieved
and exhibited a balance between religious and scouting activities in
their work with the youth of Scouting.
Parvuli Dei Emblem
The Parvuli
Dei emblem (grades 3-4) is designed to help Bear and Webelos Cub Scouts
become more aware of God's presence in their daily lives, especially
in their homes and communities. The program works with the assistance
of the Scout's parent(s).
Pope Pius XII
The Pope Pius XII
emblem (grade 9 - college) is for both Boy Scouts and Explorers. The
program deals with Church-related ministries and vocations - avenues
through which baptized persons commit themselves to serve humanity in
obedience to God's call within our Catholic faith community. Boy Scouts
and Explorers are assisted by an approved religious emblem's moderator.
